22 Nov 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity – 22nd Nov 2018, Sharm El Sheik, Egypt
New conservation tools to engage private landowners in national and regional conservation efforts in EU Member States
The LIFE project organised a lunch-event during the COP-14 on private land conservation possibilities. The conference’s international scope was the main benefit to raise awareness on the possibilities and present the need for a private land conservation framework of tools and incentives in the EU. Within the speeches of the 7 speakers, the need of a greater global recognition of private land conservation was highlighted, including the recognition of it in the legal language, like the Biological Diversity COP, to guide decision makers. The growing awareness will make policy makers understand the effect of supporting private land conservation towards meeting international biodiversity targets.
